
IARTEM is a community of researchers who work to promote research on - and understanding of textbooks and educational media.
IARTEM organizes bi-annual international research conferences and publishes conference reports.The first conference was held in Sweden in 1991. Since then, there have been conferences in Finland (1993), Denmark (1995), Norway (1997), the Netherlands (1999), Estonia (2001), Bratislava, Slovakia (2003), Caen, France (2005) and Norway (2007). The most recent conference was held on 3 - 5 September 2009 in Santiago De Compostela, Spain.
IARTEM is a non-profit organization independent of any institutional or commercial interest. Membership is individual, and can be given to professionals working in all fields related to textbook issues and educational media.
IARTEM publishes a newsletter, which is sent as an e-mail attachment to IARTEM members and other professionals.
IARTEM publishes a new e-Journal too: "Research on Textbooks and Educational Media".

This volume presents papers which were presented during the 10th IARTEM conference on textbooks and educational media, held at the University of Santiago de Compostela, Spain in September 2009, “Local, National and Transnational Identities in Textbooks and Educational Media”. More than hundred participants attended the conference, coming from five continents and fourty different countries.
